Phoenix Rising is a 9x12" hand-carved linoleum block print made on 11x14'' archival Stonehenge paper in three color variations: gold oil-based ink on black-colored paper, black oil-based ink on kraft-colored paper, and cayenne red oil-based ink on cream-colored paper. The print features an ornate Chinese-inspired phoenix surrounded by fillagree.

This print is the first in the "Astrology" series, depicting visuals of all 12 zodiac signs. Phoenix Rising is the print for the zodiac sign Scorpio.

Phoenix is the alternate symbol for Scorpio. Scorpio's traditional ruling planet is Pluto which brings energy to intense underworld/transformation/life and death cycles. Scorpio is known to evolve and change and do so in dramatic and mystical ways. You may know Scorpio for its most known symbol, the scorpion, but that is just one of the three evolutions or totems known for the sign.

The Scorpion represents a lower nature which is often how Scorpios are stereotypically characterized: evil, manipulative, jealous, overly secretive, etc. The Eagle represents the evolving, and still highly ambitious Scorpio. Eagle Scorpios keep their eye on the price and avoid drama as much as they can. The final evolution is the Phoenix stage, in which scorpios accept and own their darkness, and transform into light. Phoenix Scorpios rise from their own ashes, spiritually influencing everyone around them.

*Please note that due to the nature of hand-carved linoleum block printing, every print will have its own unique quality. Each edition is inspected to be the best quality and similar, but I cannot ensure exact replica of the print pictured on this site. Part of the magic of printmaking is all of the print-specific marks like "noise" or carving marks that add to the feel of the print. Please take note of this when ordering.
