Joro is a 8x10 hand carved linoleum block print of a Joro Spider in two color ways—printed on either White Strathmore paper in black ink or Black Stonehenge paper in gold ink.
This print is inspired by Japanese folklore of Yōkai. This one is called the Jorōgumo and it’s a shapeshifting spider woman creature. She transforms from a young woman, who seduces and lures men into her space, into a giant spider with tiny baby flaming spiders on each of her 8 legs. As the cleaver trickster and slayer, she states hidden until she’s ready to capture and torture traveling me. She after trapping them, she wraps them up in her web before devouring them.
There’s just something ✨special✨ about this lore. I wanted to honor the story by getting the creatures namesake tattooed on my hand. This joro spider is native to the western United States and is a gorgeous orb weaver. You can find them weaving extraordinary webs in your garden.
*Please note that due to the nature of hand-carved linoleum block printing, every print will have its own unique quality. Each edition is inspected to be the best quality and similar, but I cannot ensure exact replica of the print pictured on this site. Part of the magic of printmaking is all of the print-specific marks like "noise" or carving marks that add to the feel of the print. Please take note of this when ordering.
